We built this one for the students everyone else's "beginner" course quietly assumes have already coded before. CodePet is for genuine zero-experience learners — as young as 9, no ceiling at 14 — and it earns that by never reaching past what's actually been taught yet: nothing here asks a student to write a function before Lesson 9 explains what one is.
Across 10 lessons, students build and care for CodePet, a small virtual pet, in Python they write themselves — print, variables, numbers, decisions, loops, lists, and finally functions, each one taught with a live "try it" box right on the page and proven with one real, autograded challenge before the next lesson unlocks. No hardcoded shortcuts get past the checker, either — challenges with real decision logic are tested against several scenarios, not just one.
Why keep it on the roster:
- Genuinely paced for zero prior experience — nothing is assumed, nothing is skipped ahead.
- Every lesson's graded challenge only ever requires what that lesson actually taught.
- A warm, approachable visual style built specifically for a younger, first-time audience.
- Sequential unlocking, real per-student completion tracking — same trusted engine as our other Python courses.
The goal here is to go from one line of code, to writing a few in response to challenges in the IDE. It gently introduces core concepts, get them comfortable with the sandbox IDE - and of course allows plenty of teacher devation, side quests and interaction.
You students first experiance will not be one of being herded into a stagnet 'pass' or get hard stuck code-tutoring course - but one where they get to master the key concepts and learn how to load, save and download real 'smoke test' reports on their work - fast.
